Challenge:

Working with state-of-the-art technology has always been one of the main premises of Banco Original, the first financial institution to open a 100% digital current account in Brazil, that is, a complete bank. Therefore, when the bank was still designing its actions and its product portfolio and diagnosed that it would need very efficient providers to support its operations, it sought V8.TECH to help it think about and make viable IT investment strategies.

The partnership between the companies was born in 2014 with the objective of V8.TECH being a Trusted Advisor in technology for Banco Original and, currently, there are more than ten Oracle projects carried out together. With the bold increase in the client portfolio between 2019 and 2020 – when it went from 700,000 retail accounts to more than 4 million – and an aggressive growth target for the next two years, the bank demanded a technological update from the consultancy that could account for of the new challenges: in addition to gaining scalability and availability, it wanted more resilient environments and high performance.

Solution:

In October 2019, V8.TECH, guided by the excellence of its projects, designed a strategy for replacing the Oracle SuperCluster series systems, used for five years, by the Exadata X8M platform with Intel Optane Persistent Memory.

From the day-to-day experience of Banco Original, V8.TECH understood the demands of the operation and, together with the IT team, aligned the objectives and premises of the project. The consultancy proposed state-of-the-art technology and the Banco Original team, faced with an enormous challenge, migrated the platform without any downtime. All activity was carried out in the first half of 2020.

The new platform operates the banking core: investments, insurance, pensions, loans, credit card authorization, among others. Technology allows Banco Original to fulfill its goal: to challenge current practices in the financial market and unlock the potential of people with quick response and high availability (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).

Results:

With the new platform, the institution provides databases of databases with simplicity and agility for all its areas, having a series of benefits, with emphasis on:

Secure and optimized migration
More than 50 million GED files have migrated to Oracle Exadata. With this change, the execution time of services in the internal areas decreased by about 25%. 

Better use of time
With the adoption of Oracle Exadata, the financial institution estimated to improve the performance of its routines by about 30%. After go live, he achieved 70% of improvement. One of the routines that had considerable gains was the turning point of the Original: before, this happened at around 6 am and today it is possible to carry out the action at 2:30 am, with sufficient time to correct possible unforeseen events.

Data processing was also streamlined: before, in an hour, 6,000 files were processed. With Exadata, 46 thousand files are processed in the same interval.

Operating gain
Banco Original achieved a significant reduction in the windows in data processing, with the reduction of the interval from 10 to 15 hours to 2 hours, and achieved stability for the environment.

Delivery quality
Oracle Exadata offers the resilience required by the bank to meet the demands of its millions of customers with an almost zero rate of operational incidents.

High Availability
The user of Banco Original, in 2020, had the application available with availability rates above 99.98% of the month, considering the migration downtime.
